Adventures in DevOps explores technologies and ideas that are part of DevOps. The format of the episodes vary, including interviews and round-ups from conferences and events. The rotating roster of hosts interview experts in DevOps, discussing the implementation infrastructure, development, and deployment. These interviews tend to be industry-focused and include discussions on DevOps challenges and solutions. There’s also chat about different methodologies as well as cultures/ideas that can hold DevOps in organizations back.

Some episodes are talks between the hosts. These cover the principles and practicalities of DevOps – think Kubernetes, specific tools, monitoring, and so on. They also share resources for DevOps career progression too, so keep an ear out for these. Varying levels of technical knowledge are needed depending on the episode. As a rule of thumb, listeners need to go in with at least an intermediate awareness of DevOps. Some episodes are beginner focused though. For these, look for titles like ‘getting started’, ‘what is’ and so on.

This quick and snappy podcast is perfect for coffee breaks, mid-afternoon slumps, or when you are looking for a quick jolt of inspiration. Episodes are a digestible 15 minutes and the hosts interview people across DevOps. Each episode is centered on three questions. These change per episode, depending on who is being interviewed. They discuss overcoming challenges, what interests them about the industry, and what they foresee in the future.

There’s a considerable focus on culture. This is understandable – it’s DevOps after all! The tone is authoritative but friendly, and you don’t need advanced technical knowledge to enjoy this podcast. DevOps Shorts doesn’t have a regular upload schedule, but it’s well worth keeping an eye out for new episodes. We also enjoy the catchy guitar intro jingle!

Kubernetes Unpacked is a relatively new podcast, having started in 2022. As the title suggests, this show takes a deep dive into Kubernetes. Everything Kubernetes-related is covered on-prem, infrastructure, kubernetes on different platforms and so on. Episodes are a mixture of interviews and solo recordings. Its goal is to help IT professionals understand and feel more comfortable with Kubernetes. This includes understanding the hows and whys surrounding its operations, management and relationship to the cloud.

The podcast becomes more advanced as it progresses. It starts at a beginner-level, then gets more complex. Listeners can expect a technical focus with this podcast. You’ll need a fundamental knowledge of K8s before listening. But if you are new to Kubernetes, definitely start at the beginning! Episodes are around 30 minutes long and are released a couple of times a month.

As you can see, this podcast isn’t solely focused on DevOps.

However, it does play an important role in a lot of what is talked through. Listeners will need a fair amount of technical-know how before diving in, as a fair amount of technical terminology is used. Despite this, the tone is both informative and playful. The hosts have great chemistry, and it’s clear they’re having a lot of fun. There’s chat about their work lives too, which gives The Hacks a personal touch. Intermediate developer knowledge is required. It doesn’t get too technical, but you need to have some background to understand the ins and outs of what is being talked about. The vibe is friendly and informal. There’s great chemistry between the hosts – they seem like good friends! Keep an ear out for entertaining anecdotes and tangents. It’s all about gaining confidence.

A fair amount of technical-language is used. Listeners should go in with intermediate-to-advanced Azure knowledge. However, all concepts are explained and talked through. Host Jeffrey has a warm way about him, and the whole podcast has a calm and friendly tone. Episodes come out weekly, and are usually under 40 minutes.

Conversations pose questions like – what exactly is DevOps like to work in?  How can we make processes better? How can we take a more human approach?

In the initial episode, it is described why they are taking this position. “Why human? Humans power transformation through process, automation, and culture… The human element is often the differentiator that helps organizations achieve their goals”.
